On Saturday, at Pier 1, Cebu City Port, the BFP Cebu City Fire Station successfully reacted to a chemical spill onboard a moored vessel.
In particular, firefighters rescued five crew members from the ro/ro ferry Filipinas Surigao del Norte, after a chemical spill occurred when the crew was loading twenty chlorine tanks onto the ro/ro. In the process of loading, one of them toppled over and spilled.
The five crew members that were exposed to the chemical, were evacuated by the Cebu City fire department and a special-purpose fire and rescue service, and moved to the hospital.
Luckily, passengers trapped inside the vessel were also safely rescued and evacuated and further given medical care.
