Cargo ship captain is about to face charges for falsifying information concerning 15 COVID-19 positive crew members cases.
Specifically, the Department of Health referred a case to the police on 28th August, stating that the captain of the cargo ship “Thor Monadic” that arrived in Hong Kong from Indonesia on 24th August was suspected of providing false information when applying for the Freedom and Virtue Permit from the Department of Health.
As informed, there were 23 crew members on the ship, 15 of whom tested positive for COVID-19 samples collected on 25th August.
All confirmed crew members have been sent to hospital for isolation and treatment, while the rest of the crew stayed on board for quarantine.
Following the situation, the police and the Department of Health officers boarded the cargo ship to search for evidence and retrieve relevant exhibits.
At the same time, they also took statement from the captain and conducted investigations.
Later, the Department of Health will take action against the captain who “made false statement” and violated the ” Prevention and Control of Disease Regulations (Cap 599A) and seek legal advice from the Department of Justice.
