The crew was not hurt
On Aug 31, 2011, at 1.30 p.m. the “Dana 1” manoeuvred into a wrong harbour basin while entering the port of Neustadt coming from Flensburg in order to take a cargo of grain, and subsequently ran aground.
The captain from Belorus had requested his brokerage regarding the berth and where he was to turn the ship around. The captain then turned the ship not as he was told off the quay of the Federal Navy but off the harbor entrance and then headed back into the side channel of Wiek the depth of whiich was 3.3 m. Shortly thereafter the “Dana 1” got stuck.
Luckily the ground was very muddy, so that the ship was able to refloat with own power.
Now the captain was also to head for the correct basin, and shortly thereafter moored at the grain elevator. The Maritime Safety Authority in Hamburg imposed the ship to be detained until an expert has checked it. The crew of 9 was not hurt.
