Bulk carrier is sinking after collision in the Skagerrak
The Chinese owned bulk carrier Cleantec is close to sink in Skagerrak, 20 nautical miles west of Hirtshals. The vessel has a seven metres long crack in the hull and water is getting in. The vessel collided with the German owned container carrier Frisia Rotterdam. The container carrier did not sustain any serious damage. Presently the crew of 24 onboard Cleantec is preparing for evacuation from the listing vessel.
The vessel was on a voyage from Klaipeda to the Far East with a cargo of 30,000 tons of fertilizer. The ship also carries around 1,000 tons of heavy fuel oil. A rescue helicopter is standby at Aalborg, while the rescue vessel Vestkysten is on the scene.
