On 27 March Bulgarian Prime Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov proposed the creation of a multinational maritime coordination center to ensure the safety of shipping in the western part of the Black Sea.
The proposed center would focus on continuous maritime surveillance, early warning of potential threats, and protecting critical underwater infrastructure in the Black Sea. Zhelyazkov explained that the goal is to establish guidelines for shipping, monitor activities both on water and in the air and detect any potential hostile actions in the region.
The goal is to establish guidelines for navigation and to carry out monitoring activities – by air and by sea, as well as on critical infrastructure, and on all potential hostile actions in the territory of the Black Sea.
…said Rossen Zhelyazkov.
In addition, he emphasized the importance of restoring commercial shipping, noting its impact not only on bordering countries but also on East-West trade.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister presented the idea during his participation in the “Peace and Security for Ukraine” event in Paris, invited by French President Emmanuel Macron.
