Three people seriously injured
A Vietnamese boxship has left a trail of destruction after crashing into some 10 barges on Thursday leaving three people seriously injured.
The 560-teu Fortune Freighter is also believed to have sunk a vessel carrying 300 tons of rice on its approach to Ho Chi Minh City port.
Local media reports indicate that the 1997-built containership was sailing under Phu My bridge when it suddenly struck a barge. From there it is believed to have collided with and sank the rice barge before striking a third barge.
Another seven barges are said to have felt the force of the Vietnam-flagged ship.
The Watanabe Zosen-built Fortune Freighter, which is classed by the Vietnam register and has P&I cover with the London Club, is owned by Vinalines and operated by Haiphong-based Vosco.
