Boskalis and Royal IHC have signed a contract for the construction of a methanol-ready, large trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD).
According to Boskalis, the Royal IHC yard in Krimpen a/d IJssel in the Netherlands is where the new TSHD with a hopper that can hold 31,000 cubic metres of material will be constructed. The ship is designed to run on methanol as its fuel, and it is anticipated that it will be delivered around the middle of the year 2026.
Thanks to the innovative design and craftsmanship of Royal IHC and its partners, by building this megahopper we are taking an important step forward in future-proofing our fleet.

The collaboration between Royal IHC and Boskalis goes back a long way. The most recently delivered vessels are the megacutters KRIOS (2020) and the HELIOS (2017). Previously, Royal IHC delivered trailing suction hopper dredgers such as the GATEWAY, CRESTWAY, WILLEM VAN ORANJE and PRINS DER NEDERLANDEN.
As far as we are concerned, the cooperation with Boskalis symbolises how we want to serve our clients. We are passionate about using our craftsmanship and drive to continuously innovate to develop effective and sustainable solutions that meet our clients’ needs.
