As the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, BIMCO issued posters to be used onboard ships, so that seafarers and any visitors coming onboard are made aware of the precautions to be taken in order to fight against the spread of this disease.
To remind:
- First case of infection reported in Wuhan, China, on December 31
- The World Health Organization declares a global pandemic after the virus’ rapid spread, with the EU being the epicentre.
- Symptoms: respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties
- Tips to stay protected: Frequent handwash/ Avoid close contact/ Avoid unprotected contact with farm or wild animals.
All published posters spread the message about:
- Maintain high hygiene standards
- Clean all surfaces regularly – including handrails and door handles
- Be careful not to touch surfaces with fingertips and the front of your hands
- Keep a safe social distance
Also, in order to ensure the precautionary measures are viewed by persons on board, BIMCO is providing three posters for different positions on the ships.
