SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce that Be Cyber Aware At Sea has received the 2018 SMART4SEA Training Award at the prestigious 2018 SMART4SEA Awards Ceremony which successfully concluded on January the 30th, the evening ahead of the SMART4SEA Conference, at Yacht Club of Greece in Athens.
Be Cyber Aware At Sea received the SMART4SEA Training Award, sponsored by Navarino, for uniting industry stakeholders to raise awareness towards cyber security. The campaign provides free resources such as downloadable posters, ‘Phish & Ships’ newsletter, a video blog each month with guest interviewees, ‘Shark Bytes’ and useful daily updates via all social media channels. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Parker Kittiwake, Safebridge, SeaFocus, Thome Group.
Presenting the award Mr. Christian Vakarelis, VP, Media Communications Navarino, said: “Navarino is delighted to be working alongside JWC International and the Be Cyber Aware At Sea team. We have seen a great deal of interest among our customers in this cyber training for crews and we are very pleased that the hard work of the JWC team and their excellent initiative has been recognized with this award. It will help to bring further awareness of the critical importance of cyber security to the maritime industry and as shipping becomes ever more reliant on IT, that can only be a good thing.”
Accepting the award on behalf of Be Cyber Aware at Sea, Mr. Jordan Wyllie, Communications Officer stated: “Awareness, Education and Training are without a doubt the first steps which all organisations in the global shipping industry must embrace in 2018, both on land and at sea, if they are to be prepared for the future challenges that the digital era of shipping will continue to bring.“

Be Cyber Aware at Sea is a global marine and offshore industry initiative and messaging campaign to raise awareness, inform, educate and provide useful tools and resources for owners, operators and on board crews to ensure they are doing everything they can to mitigate this unknown threat at sea.
Be Cyber Aware of Sea attracted the most votes by the end of the voting period which held online during a two-month period. SMART4SEA Conference & Awards within the scope of awarding industry’s outstanding practices for Excellence, Innovation and Technology. Other winners of the 2018 SMART4SEA Awards were: Chart Co for the E-Navigation Award, Tototheo Maritime for Connectivity Award, Kongsberg Maritime for the Energy Efficiency Award, Steamship Mutual for the Cyber Security Award, Rolls Royce Marine for the Technology Award Giampiero Soncini for the Personality Award and Frank Coles for the Leadership Award.
