Darren Briggs

I am an associate director in Arup's operations practice responsible for the logistics team and the property and transport markets.

My main area of expertise is advising on operational requirements and improvements in the built environment, covering construction and new or existing site logistics operations.

I joined Arup in 1993. My career highlights include working on the London Royal Opera House redevelopment, taking Next and Mothercare to Russia and the Regent Street freight traffic reduction scheme which received the UK and European green logistics project awards.

Decarbonising UK freight: the UK coastal shipping opportunity

As the economy grows, so do carbon emissions. In the UK, the Department for Transport predicts a significant increase in the volumes of freight imported into the UK by 2050, which, if our current way of moving freight continues, will see a 50 to 60% increase in heavy goods vehicle (HGV) traffic on our road networks.
