Panama Canal reveals new initiatives towards greener shipping
In an exclusive interview with GREEN4SEA, Mr. Alexis Rodriguez, Panama Canal’s Environmental Protection Specialist, discussed the Canal’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. After one year of operation, the Expanded Canal contributed to a reduction of more than 17 million tons of CO2, however, this is only the beginning. Mr. Rodriguez said that the Canal has in store various environmental sustainability and renewable energy initiatives which reinforce that the Panama Canal is a unique ‘Green Route’ for the worldwide trade.
