SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce that Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement Inc. has received the 2019 SAFETY4SEA Dry Bulk Operator Award at a prestigious award ceremony which successfully concluded on October the 1st at Yacht Club of Greece in Athens, the evening ahead of the SAFETY4SEA Conference.
Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement Inc. received the SAFETY4SEA Dry Bulk Operator Award, sponsored by ABS, for managing a world class fleet of Dry Bulk Carrier vessels, committed to Safety and Environmental Protection and focusing on developing a unique safety culture for all personnel ashore and on-board. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Dockendale Ship Management, Nordic Hamburg, Pacific Basin Shipping Limited and Zeaborn Ship Management.
Presenting the award Mr. Elias Kariambas, Director, Regional Business Development, ABS said “It is a genuine pleasure to give this award on Alpha Bulkers, which is committed to environmental protection and is focused on developing a safety culture for all the personnel, both on shore and on board. ”
Accepting the award on behalf of Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement Inc., Capt. Andreas V. Togantzis, Safety – Quality & Marine Manager, DPA / CSO, stated “Alpha Bulkers has faced several challenges and difficulties but each one of them has only strengthened our efforts to reach to the highest level and ensure that the word ‘Safety’ is not just a simple word to us but it means a lot and this philosophy has been on-passed to all our masters, officers, crew and shore staff.”
Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement Inc. operates a fleet of 34 large bulk carriers since 1989. Headquartered in Athens, Greece, with affiliated offices in London and Singapore, the company employs about 150 shore-based professionals and 1,400 seafarers. Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement has recently commenced a fleet renewal program by ordering new buildings and purchasing modern 2nd hand ships committed to “ECO-design” standards. Within the last 18 months, the company has reported zero accidents, one (1) crew injury every 58 days and 133 consecutive days running without accidents. The company has Zero Port State Control Detentions for the years 2018- 2019 and its Port State Control Deficiency per Inspection (DPI) Index stands for 0.67. Furthermore, almost 60% of the PSC Inspections during 2018 and 2019, are without deficiencies while 32 external ISM/ISPS & MLC Audits in the last 18 months conducted without N/Cs. Alpha Bulkers has a Fleet average Star Risk Rating of 4.86 at RightShip. Overall, for the last 18 months, Alpha Bulkers operates its ships efficiently with zero cargo claims, zero under-performance claims and zero cargo shortages / cargo damages.
Alpha Bulkers Shipmanagement Inc attracted the most votes by the end of the voting period which held online during a two-month period. SAFETY4SEA Awards are held annually within the scope of awarding industry’s outstanding practices for Excellence, Sustainability, Training, Technology, Initiative and Leadership.
