The container vessel ‘Naja Arctica’ hit the pier at Reykjavik port in Iceland, when arriving on Sunday, May 26. Due to the collision, the pier is unusable until fixed; Yet, the vessel departed from Reykjavik the same day, sailing to Greenland showing that it suffered minimal damages.
Mainly, the incident took place at Sundahöfn port on Sunday morning where Naja Arctica, a vessel owned by Royal Arctic Line hit Kleppsbakki pier and caused considerable damage.
According to local sources, the repair is estimated to take 6 to 8 weeks, and they will cost about 100,000 USD. Yet, the operations at Sundahöfn were continued as usual.
Eimskip, a transportation company in the North Atlantic, commented that due to favourable weather conditions, its team is working day and night to ensure that the incident will affect the ports’ operations as less as possible, while the company’s contingency plan has been activated to mitigate the effects.
Concluding, Eimskip reassures that those who have cargoes at their vessels will be informed as needed.
