On 12 January 2018, three passing merchant vessels informed the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) that they had rescued 11 persons from a vessel that had sunk in the South China Sea, within the Singapore Maritime Search and Rescue Region.
The survivors informed that there were 13 crew on board the sunken vessel, while two persons are still unaccounted for.
MPA has been providing navigational broadcasts to vessels, instructing them to report any sightings of persons overboard and to navigate with caution in the vicinity of the incident.
