IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim is in Brussels on 9 February to meet European Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc.
In their first meeting since Mr Lim’s appointment at the beginning of the year, the two enjoyed productive discussions about climate change, passenger ship safety and the need to promote quality shipping.
Commissioner Bulc confirmed that the EC was fully behind the principle that shipping should be governed by an international regulatory framework developed by IMO and pledged her support for active cooperation between the Commission and IMO.
Mr Lim goes on to meet senior EC civil servants during the remainder of his visit.
