Port of Amsterdam announced that in May and June, OpenIJ is engaged to sink the door case of the inner head. Constructions are also being done on the local control buildings, whereas the connection between the door greenhouse and the threshold of the outer head is made, and work is also being conducted at the level of the Middensluis Island.
As shown in the image above:
- The sinking door case inner head (1):
The door case of the inner head provides space on the canal side and for the spare door.
The sinking procedure is as it was in the past, only the door greenhouse of the inner head is much larger, namely 80 meters long, 55 meters wide and 25 meters high. The greenhouse door will sink into the ground, centimetre by centimetre in the following moths. The procedure will be conducted with remotely controlled robot arms and will be monitored by cameras under the floor of the door greenhouse with sensors and measuring instruments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Local control buildings (2):
As the basement floor of the local control building East and West was poured, the walls of both basements will be built in the coming months with the floor and walls on the ground floor for both local control buildings, and they will be able to fully control their own lock gate separately.
If necessary, they operate independently of the Sluis Operation Center.
- Mailbox tub (3):
The narrow construction pit, located between the door greenhouse and the threshold is also called ‘letterbox tub’. This ensures the connection of the huge door greenhouse to the threshold of the outer head and owes its name to its relatively narrow size, namely 4 meters wide, 27 m long and no less than 25 m deep.
- Tussendam (4):
It is located on the Middensluiseiland at the height of the future access channel for the new sea lock.
In the coming months, reinforcement will be braided and concrete will be poured for the walls of the intermediate dam and trap wall and anchors will be applied to various parts that are already ready. These ensure the sturdiness of the wall of the Tussenendam and Trap wall.
