The UK MCA has issued a Marine Guidance Note to provide guidance on the transport of dangerous goods as defined by the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code when carried in a private vehicle not in commercial use or by a foot passenger on a Ro- Ro ship.
For private vehicles not in commercial use:
This MGN addresses certain dangerous goods carried by individuals in private vehicles such as cars/caravans/trailers/mobile homes. It does not include vehicles in commercial use, ambulances or vehicles driven by contractors/company employees. It also excludes private vehicles being used in the commercial transport of dangerous goods in any quantity.For gases, except when being used for medical purposes, the gas supply should be shut off at the cylinders and stowed away from sources of ignition and heat.
Foot passengers:
With the exception of passengers with medical conditions, foot passengers and passengers who are in a coach party can only carry personal grooming products in their luggage.
