A chemical tanker flying the Marshall Islands flag was boarded by four unidentified individuals this week, approximately 100 nautical miles southwest of Brass, Nigeria.
According to reports, the attackers, arriving swiftly in a black-hulled skiff, climbed aboard the vessel without displaying any weapons. They remained on the ship for nearly four hours, during which they looted cash, personal belongings from the crew, and various pieces of equipment.
No injuries were reported, and the vessel sustained no damage, as the crew secured themselves in the citadel during the intrusion.
Following the incident, the ship resumed its voyage to Douala, Cameroon.
Despite a noted decline in piracy cases off the Nigerian coast in recent years, experts warn that risks remain high across the wider region. Authorities advise enhanced vigilance, including increased watchkeeping and the possible deployment of armed security personnel.
