The US Department of Justice announced that three shipping executives were charged in the Ocean Shipping Investigation, for colluding on bids and rates, bringing the total amount of indicted to eleven executives and four companies.

Seven shipping companies operating in Mexico have been fined for causing a rise in prices after colluding on routes in the auto transport services market. The companies conducted monopolistic practices, by agreeing and executing agreements to segment the market for motor vehicle shipping services, according to the Federal Commission of Economic Competition of Mexico.

The company revised its sulphur policy on 2016, so now all vessels operated by WWL are either consuming fuel containing 0.1% sulphur or use exhaust gas scrubbers to clean the exhaust gases in all ports, around the world.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics informs that sulphur regulations are not getting a lot of attention from shippers at present, but that should change, given that the cost impact of 2020 is expected to dwarf that of 2015. A big challenge leading up to 2020 is the uncertainty, as it is not known what kind of fuel or other options will be available or what the cost will be.

WWL recently became the first RoRo shipping company to transport heavy breakbulk cargo weighing more than 92 tonnes from Japan to the United States. Until recently, Japanese ports only allowed a maximum cargo weight of 92 tonnes including roll trailer. Following negotiations with port authorities, this restriction was lifted to extend the benefits of RoRo to customers with even heavier breakbulk cargo.

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) announced that it has reached a compromise agreement with Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics AS (WWL) and Eukor Car Carriers, Inc., collecting a combined $1.5 million in civil penalties. The agreement resolved allegations that the companies violated the Shipping Act for price fixing

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics’ (WWL) has welcomed its fourth fuel efficient, scrubber equipped Neo-panamax RoRo to its fleet.

WWL has agreed to pay a $98.9 million fine for its involvement in a conspiracy to fix prices of international ocean shipments of roll-on, roll-off cargo to and from the Port of Baltimore and other locations in the US.

Since 2010, all ships operating at ports in the EU and along the coasts of Canada and the USA are required to use fuel with a maximum of 0.1 per cent sulphur. Global car carrier Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics has now gone a step further by using low-sulphur fuel for all its vessels at all ports.
