An in-depth survey conducted by WISTA International, Anglo Eastern, ISWAN and ICS, revealed shocking figures in gender-based discrimination against women, onboard harassment and bullying. The survey was completed by 1128 women from 78 countries.

During a panel discussion at Posidonia last week, the WISTA Hellas ‘Women at Sea’ seminar, examined the challenges facing women seafarers as well as food for thought on how to support them throughout their careers. 

According to data from the newly- published 2021 IMO-WISTA Women in Maritime Survey Report, gender diversity in maritime is extremely fragmented by sector. The data demonstrates that women account for only 29% of the overall workforce in the general industry and 20% of the workforce of national maritime authorities in Member States.

IMO, in collaboration with the Women's International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA International) and Maritime SheEO, announced the launch of the Maritime SheEO Leadership Accelerator Programme 2022.

On the occasion of 2022 International Women's Day, WISTA Norway President, Siri Sundal Shield, highlights the important challenges facing the maritime industry and invites leaders to take action by signing  the 'WISTA Norway 40 by 30 pledge'. 

WISTA International, the global body for women in the maritime world, has signed a MoU with APEC Seafarers Excellence Network (APEC SEN), which promotes well-qualified maritime workforce in Asia and globally, aiming to build a community that will attract and support women in the Asia Pacific Region.

The IMO and the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA International) have launched the inaugural Women in Maritime – IMO and WISTA International Survey 2021.

WISTA Romania became the 50th active National WISTA Association (NWA) and the 19th European country to join the network.

WISTA International and IMO signed a MoU on technical cooperation to further promote diversity and inclusion through enhanced cooperation activities in the maritime sector. This comes in line with previous work by both organizations to enable more women in shipping.
