According to Bloomberg, the owner of the ship responsible for damaging Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, the Dali, has initiated a formal "general average" process.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating electrical issues on the Dali container ship as a potential cause of its crash into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge. 

As the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) explains, the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge has disrupted shipping traffic from the Port of Baltimore, the second-largest coal exporting hub in the U.S., accounting for 28% of total coal exports in 2023.

As several forces are working to clear the wreckage along the Fort McHenry Channel following the collapse of the Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge, engineers have determined a tentative timeline for the restoration for safe navigation in and out of the Port of Baltimore.

The Port of Baltimore opened a temporary channel on Monday to free some tugs and barges trapped by a recent bridge collapse.

A cargo ship, MV Dali, crashed into the Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, carrying 56 containers of hazardous materials weighing 764 tons, according to Jennifer Homendy, the head of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

On 2nd April, crews created a second temporary passage, enabling a restricted amount of maritime traffic to navigate around the damaged remains of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge. The bridge had been obstructing the primary shipping route of the crucial port for a week following its collapse.

According to Reuters, on 1st April, the port of Baltimore opened a temporary channel, allowing the release of some tugs and barges previously stranded due to the bridge collapse last week. However, officials noted that broader efforts to restore commercial shipping were still hindered by persistent challenges.

On Tuesday, 26 March, the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed following a collision with the container ship MV Dali, creating a major impact in US trade and port operations. 

Investigations and inquiries have begun into the catastrophic collision that took place in Baltimore on March 26, which resulted in casualties and the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
