UK Coastguard received a call about a man reporting to be lost at sea and to have lost power and radio communications. On the occasion, UK Coastguard advises how essential it is to have the correct and most suitable communications equipment when setting out to sea, especially in extreme weather conditions.

As explained, there have been a significant number of collisions where subsequent investigations have found that at some stage before impact, one or both parties were using VHF radio in an attempt to avoid collision. The use of VHF radio in these circumstances is not always helpful and may even prove to be dangerous.

UK MCA informed that nine foreign flagged ships were under detention in UK ports during September 2017 after failing Port State Control (PSC) inspection, including Indian and four (4) Panama flagged vessels in the Territory of British Sea.

The replacement crew of a Panama-registered ship asks repatriation, as the ship has been detained in Sharpness Docks, Gloucestershire, for over two months,  amid claims ‘modern day slavery’ conditions. The ship has been detained since early June, for unpaid wages and poor working conditions.

Three new foreign flagged vessels were detained in a UK port in July, after failing Port State Control inspection, reaching the number of detained ships in UK to ten, the country's Maritime and Coastguard Agency announced.

The UK Coastguard announced that the search for two missing men in the sea in the Shoreham area has been suspended. The Coastguard coordinated the search after a man was found in the water just before 6 in the morning of August 6, approximately 2 miles off Shoreham Harbour.
