The crew of the ship evacuated by boat The "Moinos", 2563 ts (EU-No.: 04803510), caught fire on the Rhine at Ludwigshafen in the evening of Nov 15, 2011.The ship was berthed in the Old Rhine Port Mundenheim when the fire broke out in the ship's electronic. The fire which led to development of dense smoke could soon be extinguished by the automatic fire suppression system and was already out when the fire rescue arrived.The crew of the ship which was bound from Rotterdam to Wesseling evacuated by boat. Ship sinks near Oman, 5 Indian sailors dead

Nine sailors are still missing An Indian ship sank off the coast of southern Oman, drowning five Indian sailors and leaving nine others missing.The ship MSV Shiv Sagar sank near the southern Dhofar region of Oman on Saturday, local media reports said. Six sailors were rescued after the Omani coast guards and naval vessels launched a rescue operation but nine others are still missing, the Gulf News reported.The southern Dhofar region was hit by torrential rains this week, flooding the region and killing 12 people. The Met authorities in the region had cautioned fishermen and other seafarers to check the condition of the sea before venturing out.The rescued sailors were initially taken to the Sadah Hospital for treatment. S. Korea skipper shot by Somali pirates gets medal

Seok Hae-Kyun was captain of the Samho Jewelry A South Korean sea captain severely wounded by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean was awarded a medal Monday for his role in thwarting the hijackers.Seok Hae-Kyun was captain of the 11,500-ton Samho Jewelry, which was seized in January but retaken six days later by South Korean naval commandos in a daring raid.He helped the rescue mission by steering his ship in a zigzag manner to slow it down as a South Korean destroyer carrying the commandos gave chase.During the raid Seok was shot several times but survived after several rounds of surgery. Twenty other crew members were rescued unhurt while eight pirates were killed and five captured.The five were flown to South Korea for trial. The man convicted of shooting Seok was jailed for life while the others were given between 13-15 years in prison.President Lee Myung-Bak Monday awarded Seok the Dongbaek Medal of the Order of Civil Merit. His doctor Lee Kug-Jong, who helped save the seriously injured wounded captain, received the same award."It appears Captain Seok was endowed with a heaven-blessed life," Lee said."You survived and can walk again...even after suffering gunshots like that.Source: AFP
