RightShip announced a new program for the dry bulk sector which aims to ensure the highest levels of safety, security and environmental excellence. The new Dry Bulk Management Standard (DBMS) aims to support the improvement of safety and risk management standards within dry bulk ship management and  help drive collaboration, conversation and increased standards in the sector. 

To support industry management of risk and safety ahead of the implementation of the 2020 sulphur cap, RightShip calls operators of ships more than 8,000 DWT to confirm their compliant fuel choices and ship implementation plans in a new compliance assessment. 

London-based mining company Anglo American announced it has offset the carbon emissions for an ocean freight voyage from South Africa to Europe, using RightShip’s carbon accounting tool and offset credits purchased from South Pole.

During the 2019 SAFETY4SEA London Forum, Mr. Christopher Saunders, Global Marine Process Manager, RightShip, firstly provided an overview of RightShip’s risk rating to make delegates familiar with the organization’s vetting platform. Then, he moved on to explain how the industry must lead the sustainability charge and operate beyond compliance.

Rightship reported that it has recently seen an alarming increase in the number of High Potential Near Miss reports regarding poor preparation of helicopter landing areas. The majority of the cases have involved loose items of equipment, in particular slack fire hoses. Specifically, loose items of equipment and slack fire hoses will move in an unpredictable manner when exposed to helicopter down-wash.

Scope 3 emissions, those involved directly in an organizations' business operations, often represent the largest source of a company's carbon output. A new animated video issued by RightShip shows how maritime organisations measure and offset their supply chain emissions using a Carbon Accounting tool. 

RightShip, the maritime risk management and environmental assessment organisation, announced it has appointed its new CEO, Martin Crawford-Brunt, who will replace outgoing CEO Warwick Norman. Mr. Crawford-Brunt takes up his new post on 12 March 2018 and will initially be based at RightShip's London office.

RightShip said that it is currently working with AUSMEPA to deliver a prototype Maritime Emissions Portal with the assistance from Rio Tinto  to identify a suitable trial port within their network.

Warwick Norman, CEO, Rightship, talked about the vetting evolution over the last twenty years at the 2017 SAFETY4SEA Conference. Capt. Norman said that the motivation for the creation of RightShip was largely a desire to improve safety standards, in particular around the cape fleet where both BHP & Rio shared a common risk.

RightShip and The Nautical Institute are now partnering with a number of industry peak bodies in the preparation and peer review of a proposed guide which will feature best practices to raise standards in the marine solid bulk cargo sector. RightShip notes that currently there is no ISGOTT equivalent in the solid bulk cargo sector and believes that this initiative will have a direct and positive influence on safety.
