Korea is expected to construct 20 LNG carriers for Qatar's forthcoming liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. Qatar Energy, the state-owned energy firm leading the project, is currently negotiating with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), Hanwha Ocean, and Samsung Heavy Industries to build LNG carriers valued at $5 billion.

Transport Malta’s Marine Safety Investigation Unit has issued an investigation report into the fatality of a crew member and the collapse of two other, due to heat exhaustion on board the Maltese-registered bulk carrier, ELPIDA GR in the port of Mesaieed, Qatar, on 27 July 2023.

QatarEnergy signed definitive agreements with CPC Corporation, Taiwan (CPC) covering the long-term supply of LNG to CPC and partnership in the North Field East LNG expansion project (NFE).

QatarEnergy has inked a significant agreement with Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat), on the 8th of May, for the ownership and operation of nine "QC-Max" class LNG vessels.

In a significant development, since 2022, QatarEnergy has signed TCPs for the long-term charter and operation of 104 conventional LNG vessels as part of its LNG fleet expansion program. 

QatarEnergy has signed time-charter party (TCP) agreements with Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) for the operation of 25 conventional-size LNG vessels as part of the second ship-owner tender under QatarEnergy’s LNG Fleet Expansion Program.

QatarEnergy has announced that it is proceeding with a new LNG expansion project, the 'North Field West' project, to further raise the State of Qatar's LNG production capacity to 142 million tons per annum (MTPA) before the end of this decade, representing an increase of almost 85% from current production levels.

ABS has opened the ABS Global LNG Academy in Doha, a training center focused on educating mariners in  LNG vessel operations.

QatarEnergy has signed a 20-year LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Petronet LNG Limited to supply 7.5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of LNG to India.
