Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has recorded the third-highest annual tonnage in its history reporting 330.7 million Panama Canal tons (PC/UMS) for fiscal year 2016.

The Panama Canal has marked another milestone with the transit of the first-ever liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier through its expanded locks.

Local media reported on July 21st the first accident at the new Panama Canal few days before completing its first month of operation. Specifically, the COSCO's first vessel to transit the expanded canal made contact with the wall while traversing new Agua Clara locks.

The MOL Benefactor is the first vessel to call on Savannah through the new locks of the expanded Panama Canal. At a capacity of 10,100 twenty-foot equivalent container units, the Benefactor is also the largest ship ever to call the Port of Savannah.
