According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), a roll-on roll-off/passenger vessel ran aground at approximately 100 meters off the nearest shoreline of Barangay Nasunugan in Banton, Romblon, midnight of 16 July 2023.

Transfer of crude oil from the dilapidated tanker Safer stranded off the coast of Yemen, is expected to start early next week, a senior United Nations humanitarian official told the Security Council on Monday.

The salvage team from Boskalis’ SMIT Salvage reports that they are making progress with the plan to prepare the vessel for the ship-to-ship oil transfer, twelve days after arriving at the FSO Safer.  

Up to 3,400 gallons of oil were spilled in the Mississippi river from a Kirby Inland Marine barge near Natchez, the U.S. Coast Guard said on 12th June. 

On 30th May, the United Nations started an operation to remove more than 1 million barrels of oil from the FSO Safer, which has been moored about nine kilometers off Yemen’s Ras Isa peninsula since 1988 and could explode or break up at any time.

On May 21, 2023, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responded to a vessel collision involving the MV St. Jhudiel and the LCT Poseidon 23 in the waters off Barangay Looc, Mandaue City, Cebu.

From May 19 to 21, Japan will host the G7 Summit in Hiroshima with leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States where various issues will be discussed, including sanctions against Russia. 

The United Kingdom and the Netherlands co-hosted an online pledging event last week to raise funds for the UN plan to prevent a catastrophic oil spill from the FSO Safer, the decaying tanker off Yemen’s Red Sea coast.

EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency) issued an inventory to provide an overview of the oil spill dispersant application capability at an EU level.

Icelandic Coast Guard has been conducting an operation since last week to salvage the cargo ship Wilson Skaw that ran aground at Ennishöfði in Húnaflói on April 18th.
