The Chinese general cargo ship Zhong Xing 689 sank near Pingtan of Fujian, on January 21, while it was heading to Pingtan from Shantou. At the time of the incident the ships was carrying 12 crew. Local authorities deployed two patrol boats and two helicopters, rescuing 11 of the crew, but one is still missing and the search operation is ongoing.

According to Indonesia's Ministry of Transport, the search for the crude palm oil tanker which has reportedly disappeared in Indonesian waters keeps on going and enters the third week. The communication with the vessel and its 12 crew members was lost on December 27.

Sincerity Ace vessel caught on fire on December 31 and the USCG and good Samaritans responded sending vessels to assist. Yet, the search efforts for the remaining missing crew member were suspended on January 2, as stated by the US Coast Guard. The cause of the fire still remains unknown. 

The cargo ship 'The London' sank 90 nautical miles east of the Chinese city Taizhou Yuhuan. The ship was carrying 15 people on board at the time of the incident. Four of them have been found, but one has lost his life and the other ten are missing. Search and rescue operations have begun.

The US Coast Guard and good Samaritans aboard several commercial vessels responded to a vessel fire on the 650-foot Sincerity Ace 1,800 nautical miles northwest of Oahu on the high seas, on December 31. 16 of the 21 crew were rescued, but there are five missing, with fears that three of them are dead.

The first chief officer of the dredger 'JBB De Rong 19', which collided with the tanker 'Kartika Segara', leading to the death of five crewmembers, was neither qualified nor certified to be managing such a ship, a court decided on July 11. The chief officer was sentenced in two years in jail, as he pleaded guilty.

A 23-year-old crew man has reportedly fallen overboard from the oil products tanker 'Challenge Prelude', 126 miles south of Sand Point, Alaska, on Sunday. A US Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HC-130 Hercules aircrew are searching for the missing sailor.

Two Chinese sailors were rescued Friday from the pump room of the capsized dredger 'JBB Rong Chang 8' in Malacca Strait. The dredger was en route from Singapore to Telok Ramonia, when it capsized with 18 crew onboard, off Parit Jawa, Johor State, Malaysia, in the morning hours of Wednesday, 21 March.

One crewman died and 14 other are reported missing, after the Dominica-flagged hopper dredger 'JBB Rong Chang 8' capsized off Parit Jawa, Johor State, Malaysia, Malacca Strait, in the morning hours of Wednesday, 21 March. Three crewmen were rescued. A search and rescue operation is underway by Malaysian authorities.

The International Transport Workers’ Federation has called for an investigation into the disappearance of 45-year-old seafarer who was reported missing on 13 March 2018 onboard the livestock carrier 'Galloway Express', bound for Australia. AMSA is expected to conduct an unrelated livestock pre-loading inspection later today.
