New Vopak LPG facility in Singapore receives its first cargo

Vopak has received its first cargo at the new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) facility at its Banyan terminal on Jurong Island, marking the start-up of Southeast Asia’s first independent LPG import and storage facility. The shipment from the vessel “Sun Aries” will deliver fully refrigerated propane to ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, one of the anchor tenants of Vopak’s terminal in Singapore.

MHI receives order for very large LPG Carrier for Astomos Energy

 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.,MHI, has received an order from Astomos Energy Corporation for a very large liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier.The order marks the very first to be received by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipbuilding since the company’s launch on October 1. The LPG carrier on order is identical to the four vessels Astomos Energy has already ordered to MHI since 2013.The ship provides the world’s highest level of energy-saving performance, flexibility to accommodate major LPG terminals around the globe, and specifications suited to passage through the newly expanding Panama Canal. Completion and delivery are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2018.The LPG carrier newly ordered to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipbuilding will measure 230.0 meters (m) in length overall (LOA), 36.6m in width and 11.1m in draft, with gross tonnage of 48,300 tons (t) and deadweight tonnage of 51,100t. It will have capacity to carry up to 83,000 cubic meters (m3) of LPG. Green Award opts for LPG carriers

 Green Award Foundation announced that it will broaden certification programme further to LPG carriers following the demand from Certificate Holders. Company says that preparations are in the final stage  as they expect the final approval for launch by the end of this year.Green Award currently runs a certification scheme for ship types of Oil/Product, Dry Bulk, LNG, Chemical, Containers and their respective technical management offices, as well as a programme for Inland ships.''As it is Green Award’s ambition to continuously broaden and maximise the effect of going beyond regulations for safety in shipping and protection of the (marine) environment, together with our stakeholders we saw that the development of the LPG certification programme would be a logical step after we entered the LNG sector several years ago.''Green Award stated.A research project was run which included a feasibility assessment and consultations with the stakeholders in the LPG transport sector that provided expertise on LPG related technical issues (e.g. design, cargo operations, training).In parallel, several more organisations were selected to request feedback on the full draft requirements.
