The company Jaunzeltiņi has recently introduced several technologies for loading timber into containers. Timber is increasingly being exported from Riga in containers. One of these technologies is the so-called "loading plate. This technology enables placing cargo on the specially designed "plate" quickly and effectively and loading it into the container automatically.

The St. Louis Regional Freightway, Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District and four ports in the St. Louis region signed a Memorandum of Understanding to form an alliance to promote international and inland trade routes at strategic locations along the Mississippi River. The represents a five-year commitment.

ClassNK released its Guidelines for Direct Load Analysis and Strength Assessment of hull structure. These guidelines include the load and structural consistent analysis structural evaluation method. As vessels are getting bigger, structural strength assessments during the design stage are important ensuring the safety and integrity of hull structures even in the harshest conditions of the ocean. 

The West P&I Club informed that it has recently experienced a cargo liquefaction case, involving a full cargo of Ball Clay loaded in Lumut, Malaysia for discharge in Chittagong, Bangladesh, similar to another case experienced in 2013. In view of this, the Club urges operators to pay attention when loading a clay cargo.

The Ports of Indiana announced that the country’s oldest stevedoring company, Metro Ports, will become the new bulk terminal operator at the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor. Starting July 1st, Metro Ports will manage the loading and unloading of shipments along the port’s East Harbor for port tenants and outside companies shipping bulk cargoes.

The Marine Safety Investigation Unit issued an investigation report, regarding an accidental fall from a height of a crew member, during the cargo hold cleaning operations, onboard a bulk carrier. The purpose is to determine the circumstances and safety factors of the incident, to prevent further marine casualties from occurring again.

The US National Transportation Safety Board issued an investigation report on an accident occurred on July 2015, during off loading operations of a bulk carrier, in the Port of Galveston, Texas, that led to injury of two longshoremen.

On April 26, an Italian product tanker, named "Rinella M", caught fire at the dock in Port of Alexandria, Egypt, during offloading operation. There is no information about injuries or water pollution.

Marine Safety Investigation (MSI) of Malta issued a simplified investigation report on an accident, that happened during Cielo di Tocopilla, a register bulk carrier, was loading steel products in the port of Ilo, Peru and the whiplash of the mooring rope section struck a bosun on his right leg.

Port of Antwerp announced that the container terminals MSC PSA European Terminal and DP World Antwerp Gateway, both located in the Deurganck dock, are due to extend their opening hours so that fetching or delivering containers by truck can carry on around the clock on weekdays.
