HMD, LR to deliver world’s first ballast free LNG bunker tanker

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard will deliver the world’s first ballast free LNG bunkering vessel later in 2018. The 7,600m³ vessel was ordered by Germany-based Bernhard Schulte Ship management in 2016 and is being constructed to LR class at HMD’s Ulsan shipyard. 

Coldharbour signs up LR for USCG type approval process

UK-based Coldharbour Marine has signed a contract with Lloyd’s Register to oversee the complete range of tests required by the US Coast Guard in its type approval process. LR will work in the type approval tests with Marine Eco Analytics, a test laboratory in the Netherlands.

New dates for BWTS implementation

The IMO’s MEPC have agreed amendments to Regulation B-3 of the BWM Convention to implement a new schedule for the D-2 requirements. The amendments delay the mandatory BWTS installation schedule for two years after entry into force, giving vessels 2 to 7 years before needing to fit a treatment system, depending on their IOPP renewal survey dates.
