The Liberia Maritime Authority (LISCR) issued a notice to provide guidance to vessel owners, operators and managers on compliance and maintenance of pilot transfer arrangements, including notification on counterfeit products and the latest developments from IMO.

The commercialization of autonomous shipping has taken another step forward with the Korean Register (KR) and Liberian Registry (LISCR) awarding Approval in Principle (AiP) on 31 January for Hyundai Intelligent Navigation Assistant System (HiNAS 2.0).

Kierstin Del Valle Lachtman recently became the new Secretary General of the Liberian Shipowners Council (LSC), the Liberian Registry announced. Ms. Lachtman has worked as a representative and advocate for shipowners, most recently as Manager of Maritime Policy for CLIA.

The Liberian Registry informed of a recent case of improper stowage of lifeboats onboard, which could have resulted in serious damage or personal injury, had it gone unnoticed. LISCR communicated the case as this could happen to anyone. 

Liberia is now the second largest ship registry in the world, according to Clarksons in its Clarksons World Fleet Monitor January 2019. This report confirmed that, in gross tonnage terms, Liberia has surpassed the Marshall Islands, which is now in third place. Alfonso Castillero, CCO of the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry added that the quality of service and the rapid response are key factors behind the growth.

As shipping rapidly adopts digitalization with electronic record-keeping and data exchange, flag administrations must increase their ability to provide relevant information to shipowners and managers in a timely and convenient way, the Liberian Registry claims.

The Liberian Corporate Registry announced the appointment of Anthony Perea as new Managing Director. Mr. Perea has nearly 25 years’ experience in business development and operations in the financial and corporate services sector, with a particular focus on wealth management, as well as trust and corporate and fiduciary services.

Liberia Maritime Authority issued a document to assist Masters on their responsibilities under Liberian Law and provide guidance to ensure a positive PSC inspection. Under Liberian Regulation 2.35, it is the responsibility of owners and masters to ensure compliance with all applicable international conventions.
