Individual Cooperation Agreements on Asia-Europe Trades

Cosco, K Line, Yang Ming, Hanjin and Evergreen Line join forces Cosco, "K" Line, Yang Ming, Hanjin and Evergreen have agreed to initiate individual cooperative arrangements on Asia-Europe trades starting from April 2012 as announced last December.This cooperation between the four CKYH Lines and Evergreen Line is designed to offer customers best sailing frequency, transit time and service coverage so as to fulfill customers' needs.These bilateral arrangements will be implemented in 8 weekly services for Asia - North Europe and 4 for Asia - Mediterranean including direct services for Asia - Adriatic regions calling Rijeka, Koper and Trieste.Especially, weekly services for Asia - North Europe, which in fact, offer the highest frequency in the market, will also provide very attractive transit times from Asia to major European ports including Rotterdam, Hamburg and Felixstowe (i.e. 26-27 days from Shanghai/Ningbo and 23-24 days from Yantian).The majority of the fleet operated in these total twelve loops will be ranging from 8,000TEU to 13,000TEU sizeSource: K Line

Shipping lines sail into the red

Japanese shipping groups K Line and MOL have joined the growing list Japanese shipping groups K Line and MOL have joined the growing list of carriers that sailed into the red in 2011. K Line recorded losses of 42.16 billion yuan (US$542.4 million) in the first nine months of its financial year.The line has revised its forecast for the full year (made at the end of October) from a loss of 32 billion yuan to one of 54 billion yuan. ClassNK Issues Certification for ECDIS Training Course and Manning Services Provided by the K LINE

Class NK also issues MLC Certification ClassNK announced yesterday that it had issued generic training course approval to an Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) course offered by K Line Maritime Academy (Philippine) (KLMA (Phili)), a group company of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. The approval, which certifies that this course complies with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards and the leading classification society's new Standard for Maritime Education & Training, is the first of its kind issued by ClassNK in the Philippines.ClassNK also issued certification for seafarer recruitment and placement service providers in line with the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006) to another member of the "K" LINE Group, Manila-based manning company Ventis Maritime Corporation (VMC). The approval confirms the company's conformance with the standards set forth in Regulation 1.4 (Recruitment and Placement) of the MLC 2006 which was adopted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2006 to help ensure the safety and protect the rights of seafarers. New requirements for the installation of ECDIS systems are due to be phased in from July of this year. K Line adds new Asian container service

From South Korea to the Philippines and Indonesia Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has added a new weekly service called Jaseco-K from South Korea to the Philippines and Indonesia.The Japanese line announced on Tuesday the expansion of the direct service coverage to/from Korea for its customers in the region.The first vessel City of Shanghai will depart Xingang port on 7 November.The weekly port rotation is Xingang, Pyeongtaek, Busan, Manila, Singapore, Jakarta, Manila, Busan, Incheon and back to Xingang.Source: Seatrade Asia

IHI develops dual fuel boxship

New design features relatively small LNG tanks Japanese shipbuilder IHI Corp has been reported as saying that it has developed a low-emission containership using either LNG or standard bunker fuel.According to a Nikkei report IHI has develop proprietary technology to overcome what has widely been seen as drawback to LNG power for merchant vessels. It appears the IHI design features relatively small LNG tanks, thus reducing the encroachment on carrying capacity. IHI says that while burning LNG the vessel produces no sulphur oxides and emits 80% less nitrogen oxides than a comparable vessel using heavy oil.Kawasaki Heavy Industries and K Line are developing vessels that use LNG as fuel, the report notes. Increasing international interest in Vietnam's port sector The Japanese government, investors, contractors, and shipping lines are all looking to get involved in the Vietnamese ports and shipping sector, said the London-based Business Monitor International's (BMI) Vietnam freight transport report for 2011's third quarter, according to Vietnam News Briefs Service.Japanese interest in Vietnam's ports and shipping industry was surging, BMI noted, cited Kobe Steel as saying it will build its own US$244 million to $365 million port in Vietnam to secure iron nugget supplies.Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) will deploy Europe-bound container vessels for the first time that will have a handling capacity of 6,500 TEUs. MOL will operate 10 such vessels through Vietnam on a weekly basis.Besides, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) was to launch freight services between Southeast Asian countries in association with state-run Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines).Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ("K'' Line) along with a Vietnamese logistics firm will establish a joint venture in Hanoi to operate an international freight forwarding business by sea and air.
