IMO has agreed to develop a new medical guide for ships, jointly with ILO. The main objective would be to produce a practical up-to-date ships medical guide to assist those required to give medical assistance who are primarily not medics. 

During the 6th session of its Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW 6) on 29 April-3 May, IMO established a correspondence group to consider how to address the use of electronic certificates and documents of seafarers.

The 6th session of IMO's Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW 6), held from 29 April to 3 May, marked progress with the review of the STCW Convention for Fishing Vessel Personnel (STCW-F), 1995, which entered into force in 2012.

The 6th session of IMO's Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW 6), held from 29 April to 3 May, validated two new IMO model courses on IGF Code training. The courses assist stakeholders to develop training programmes, under STCW Convention.

Three new model courses and one revised model course have been put forward for validation to the Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping on 29 April-3 May. IMO model courses assist Member States to develop detailed training programmes, under STCW Convention.

The IMO Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment held its 6th Session (SSE 6) from 4 to 8 March 2019. The meeting focused on improvements in ventilation conditions of survival craft that will be achieved by finalising draft amendments to the LSA Code on ventilation requirements for survival craft and draft amendments to the ‘Revised recommendation on testing of life-saving appliances’.

In light of the Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE 6) meeting conducted by IMO's Sub-Committee on 4-8 March 2019, the participants agreed to draft interim guidelines on life-saving appliances and arrangements for ships operating in polar waters, to ensure they meet the needs for survival in the harsh and specific conditions in Polar waters.

IMO's Sub-Committee conducted a meeting on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE 6), on 4-8 March 2019. The meeting except safe lifting operations, focused on fire safety on ro-ro vessels in order to minimize the danger and the accidents.

IMO's Sub-Committee met in London from 4 to 8 of March 2018, to discuss about draft mandatory regulations in order to make lifting appliances, such as onboard cargo cranes safer. The aim of the meeting was to finalize regulations concerning the seafarers' safety onboard and the prevention of accidents.

IMO's Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR) will conduct a meeting on 18 to 22 February to IMO's headquarters, London. IMO's agenda includes MARPOL Annex VI guidelines, safety measures on reducing the risks of use and carriage of heavy fuel oil, as well as measures aiming to decrease the impact on the Arctic of Black Carbon emissions from international shipping.
