Moss Maritime, in cooperation with Equinor, Wilhelmsen and DNV-GL, have developed a design for a Liquefied Hydrogen bunker vessel. The vessel design comes at a time when hydrogen is developing into a viable solution. The LH2 bunker vessel has cargo capacity of 9000 m³, with a cargo containment system aimed to enhance insulation performance and meet strict safety requirements.

The unexpected increase in solar and wind power in the US will result to a decrease of coal in the next few years. Renewable energy, led by solar and wind, is foreseen to be the fastest-developing source of US electricity generation for at least the next two years, according to a report published Friday by the US Energy Department.

A new research by DNV GL, showed that companies’ resilience to volatile market conditions will be put to the test in 2019. This will happen because business leaders expect the industry to commit to greater investment to meet hydrocarbon demand. 67% of senior oil and gas professionals believe that larger, capital-intensive oil and gas projects will be approved.

Based on IMO's strict sulphur regulations, the shipping industry is looking for ways to take its shipping in a greener and more sustainable path by innovating in the technological fields. As IMO has demanded, the shipping industry's sulphur emissions should not exceed the 0.50% m/m of sulphur, by 2020 unless the ships are equipped with scrubbers or get along with other options available. 

Norwegian ferry company Norled announced it has won a contract for the development, construction and operation of the world's first hydrogen-electric ferry, where at least 50% of the energy requirement is covered by hydrogen. Today, there are no comparable hydrogen powered vessels in operation.

The Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency will collaborate with Toyota Motor Corp. to build a fishing boat fueled by hydrogen fuel cells, that are able to emit zero CO2. FRA will start designing the body of the ship in 2019 and will perform ocean testing in 2022.

In 2019 the Port Authority will keep to the same course, further building a sustainable future for the port. In pursuit of this goal it is concentrating heavily on structural solutions to challenges such as mobility, the energy transition, digitisation and innovation.

Havyard and Havila Kystruten informed that their hydrogen-powered coastal route operations will receive over NOK 100 million in funding from Pilot-E. The initiative can lead to ships with up to five times longer zero-emission voyages than current ones or planned vessels.

In a first for Auckland, Ports of Auckland revealed plans to build a hydrogen production and refueling facility at its Waitematā port. Under the project, the company along with its project partners will invest in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles including port equipment, buses and cars. The project is part of the Ports' ambitious target to be a zero emission port by 2040.

MAN Cryo, a subsidiary of MAN Energy Solutions, has developed a marine fuel-gas system for liquefied hydrogen. MAN Cryo developed the system with the cooperation of Fjord1 and Multi Maritime in Norway. The system allows the adaptation for different shipping types.
