Japan, Toyota to build fishing boat powered with hydrogen fuel cells

The Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency will collaborate with Toyota Motor Corp. to build a fishing boat fueled by hydrogen fuel cells, that are able to emit zero CO2. FRA will start designing the body of the ship in 2019 and will perform ocean testing in 2022.

Wärtsilä to equip Nord Pilgrim’s new fishing trawlers

Wärtsilä has been contracted to provide the engines and the complete propulsion package for two new fishing trawlers being built for Murmansk, Russia-based Nord Pilgrim Ltd. The vessels will be reinforced to Ice3 class, thereby enabling them to extend their fishing operations in the Barents Sea and North Atlantic.

Fuel efficient fishing vessel selects Wartsila’s engine

Wärtsilä said it has been selected to provide its main engine, the propulsion machinery, and the auxiliary engines for a new state-of-the-art pelagic trawler under construction at a Norwegian shipyard. The vessel has been ordered by Research Fishing Co based in Lerwick, Shetland Islands.
