Containerships announced that has been granted substantial funding for its LNG project by EU and the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation. With the grant, the Finnish shipping company will implement its eco-friendly strategy, which is based on using LNG throughout the company's logistics supply chain.

Doosan Infracore signed a memorandum of understanding on their cooperation for the development of LNG engines for small vessels with KOGAS and Samjin Yard. This MOU was concluded with a recent increase in demand for converting small domestic ships with diesel engines to LNG-powered ships.

On Saturday, March 25, General Dynamics NASSCO christened and launched the Palmetto State – the final ship in an eight-ship ECO Class tanker program to be constructed at NASSCO. The ship and her sister tankers are the most fuel-efficient tankers to service the Jones Act trade, with an “ECO” design offering 33 percent increased fuel efficiency and cleaner shipping options.

The final meeting of the GloBallast Global Project Task Force (GPTF), held in Panama City, on 16-17 March, highlighted the legacy elements of the GloBallast project, which are expected to be sustained by its main stakeholders, following the formal closure of the project, in June 2017. Specific examples include GloBallast training packages, to support the capacity-building needs of countries implementing the BWM Convention.

Damen announced that the first of its purpose-built Service Operations Vessels, with Walk-to-Work (W2W) capability, Bibby WaveMaster 1, was officially launched at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania, on March 24th. The aft ship has been adapted to the tasks that is designed for, including stern to waves operations.

Hyundai Heavy Industries has secured an order to build four LNG fueled Aframax tankers for Sovcomflot. The tankers will be eco friendly, targeting to reduce greenhouse gases, such as nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide. The vessels will be used by Shell to transport Russian crude oil.

Samsung Heavy Industries held a naming ceremony for the largest continership built so far, "MOL Triumph", that surpasses 20,000 TEU, in Geoje shipyard, on March 15th. The ship is eco-friendly, as she disposes an array of energy-saving equipments, including propeller, rudder valve, and stator.

ZIM has launched a new ECO Data calculator, available free on its website, providing the estimated CO2 and SOX emissions from ZIM vessels. The new calculator is part of the company's environmental awareness and sustainability values.

General Dynamics NASSCO has announced that it delivered the third and final ship to be constructed for SEA-Vista LLC ,Liberty, as part of a larger eight-ship ECO Class tanker program.

USCG published a presentation given by Marine Safety Center engineers Cdr. Sean Brady and Lt. Kate Woods, on plan review for battery power installations, at the "Passenger Vessel Association" annual MARITRENDS convention and the "Pacific Maritime’s forum on Liquefied Natural Gas and alternative fuels".
