DP World and the president of Ecuador held a ceremony, marking the start of construction of the greenfield multi-purpose port project at Posorja. The ceremony follows the 50-year concession the company won last year from the Government of Ecuador, to build a facility with 750,000 TEU to support economic growth.

The Port of Prince Rupert can now accommodate the largest container vessels in the world, following DP World’s expansion of its Fairview Container Terminal that increases the Port’s container-handling capacity from 850,000 to 1.35 million TEUs annually.

Global trade enabler DP World signed an agreement with the Indonesian government and port officials, to advise on the development of the Kuala Tanjung greenfield port and logistics zone and Belawan port in North Sumatra.

DP World Australia informed that it has signed a new agreement with COSCO SHIPPING Lines to be their stevedore of choice on their major services into Australia. COSCO SHIPPING Lines, as the biggest container shipping company in Asia, has major services in Australia calling at DP World Australia terminals in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

DP World announced that a new modern terminal, designed to accommodate the largest operating cruise vessels, is scheduled to open in the summer at Limassol port. The new terminal consists of seven pods with an internal area of 7,000 square meters and offers 24-hour availability.

DP World and Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, to explore areas of collaboration on clean energy solutions for DP World’s portfolio of ports and freezones in the Middle East and Africa.

Global trade enabler DP World has celebrated its 30-year port concession for the management and development of a multipurpose port project at Berbera, Republic of Somaliland which started on 2 March 2017. A ceremony was held to mark the occasion of new phase of development for the country.

Five of the world’s largest shipping lines, known as the ‘THE Alliance’, have announced plans to call at DP World’s container terminals at London Gateway and Southampton. The consortium of container shipping lines will bring vessels on its FE1 , FE2 and FE4 services into DP World Southampton and those on FE3 and FE5 into DP World London Gateway, all of which link Asia and Europe.

Kalmar announced it has received an order for eight Kalmar Hybrid Straddle Carriers from DP World Antwerp Gateway terminal in Belgium, which have been ordered to help meet the terminal’s efficiency goals. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2017 first quarter order intake, with delivery scheduled for quarter three, 2017.

The ability to assess and compare the position-keeping capability of a ship equipped with dynamic positioning technology is vital during the planning and design phases, and provides valuable operational decision support. Therefore, DNV GL presented its new standard for assessing the station keeping capability of DP vessels at the European Dynamic Positioning Conference that held in London, on 07 February.
