Upgrading the port to meet customers and fishermen's growing needs DP World, UAE Region on June 12 announced the completion of the first phase of the Al Hamriya port development plans aimed at modernising and upgrading the port to meet customers and fishermen's growing needs.The first phase officially opened today includes the upgrading of 1 million square feet of yard, which has been paved, metal fenced, and gated. These open yards are now available for lease for traders and logistics companies.Details of the next phase of the project were unveiled by Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, Ghanem Al Abbar, Deputy Director, Al Hamriya Port, at a media roundtable today.The second phase includes a modern facility for the exclusive use of the fishing industry at the port. Construction work has already begun on the facility and is due to be completed this year. New energy-efficient straddle carriers to improve efficiency and productivity DP World Melbourne has introduced the first eight of 16 new energy-efficient straddle carriers, the Dubai-based port handlers announced.The new equipment with its greater capacity to handle containers will also help reduce DP World's environmental footprint as well as improve efficiency and productivity at Australia's largest container port.A second batch of eight straddle carriers is due to be delivered later this year, increasing DP World Melbourne's fleet to 22 straddle carriers.
