The world's first LNG-fueled cruise ship, AIDAnova, arrived in the Port of Barcelona last week. Germany-based AIDA Cruises and numerous representatives from politics, port-related businesses and tourism celebrated Friday the ship arrival. 

A US Federal judge threatened that she might block Carnival Corporation from docking cruise ships at ports in the US as punishment for a possible probation violation. The cruise company has been on five years probation, from April 2017, as part of a $40m settlement for dumping oil into the ocean illegally from its Princess Cruises ships and subsequently lying about the scheme, according to court filings.

For for the third year, US-based Human Rights Campaign Foundation has recognized Carnival Corporation, the world's largest leisure travel company, with a perfect score in its 2019 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), which rates US companies on their treatment of LGBTQ consumers, investors and employees.

Marine Learning Systems, a provider of maritime training and assessment software solutions, collaborated with Carnival Corporation to develop an application for mariner skills assessment. SkillGrader aims to standardize Carnival Corporation’s training and assessment. After the assessment, SkillGrader automatically analyzes the data collected and provides a report on individual and team performance.

Carnival Corporation presented the results of an independent, two-year scientific wash-water study that shows its scrubbers are a safe and effective means for compliance with IMO's 2020 requirements, which include regulations for cleaner air emissions and strict wash-water quality standards. The study found that the wash-water samples from scrubbers were below the limits of numerous major national and international water quality and land-based water discharge standards.

The Clean Shipping Alliance 2020 held its first technical conference and presented a detailed study of the composition and quality of scrubber washwater. The Carnival-led study, which lasted three years, gathered 281 wash water samples from 53 ships with scrubbers. This data was then assessed against 54 different test parameters by ISO accredited independent laboratories.

A new report commissioned by international environmental organization Stand.earth details findings of a two-year study, exposing extremely poor air quality on four cruise ships 'that can be worse than some of the world’s most polluted cities including Beijing, China and Santiago, Chile'.

Carnival Corporation announced that it will launch four new cruise ships in 2019 across three of its brands: Carnival Cruise Line, America's Cruise Line; Costa Cruises; and Princess Cruises. The ships are: Carnival Panorama from Carnival Cruise Line; Sky Princess from Princess Cruises; Costa Venezia from Costa Cruises; Costa Smeralda from Costa Cruises.

German cruise shipbuilder Meyer Werft announced that it has delivered the world’s first LNG-fueled cruise ship to AIDA Cruises. 'AIDANova' is the largest cruise ship ever built in Germany, setting new standards in terms of environmental sustainability as the LNG technology is expected to significantly reduce emissions. 

Carnival Cruise Line announced that the first steel was cut for the company's first LNG-fueled ship, as part of the company’s green cruising platform. The vessel will be the largest Carnival cruise ship ever constructed and the first-ever ship operating in North America to use LNG. A steel cutting ceremony was held in Finland on 15 November.
