Following the COVID-19 outbreak, major cruise players, the Carnival’s Princess Cruises and P&O Cruises will extend their pause in their sailings due to the pandemic. 

The Dutch oil major Shell, recently completed the first "ship-to ship" LNG bunkering operation on the Costa Smeralda, at the French port of Marseille Fos.

The cruise industry had to deal with four different fatalities onboard four cruise vessels in a timeframe of two weeks. The incidents had no relation with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eighteen Carnival Cruise Line ships will rendezvous in the Bahamas as the final plans are put in place to sail nine of the ships to repatriate more than 10,000 healthy crew members who remain on board because of restrictions due to COVID-19, limiting air travel.  

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said it acquired an 8.2% stake in Carnival Corporation, the world’s biggest cruise operator. Carnival closed its registered public offering of 71,875,000 shares of common stock at a price of $8.00 per share on Monday. 

Global cruise giant Carnival Corporation expects net loss results of operations for the fiscal year ending 30 November 2020, as a result of the disruptions brought by COVID-19 pandemic. 

Carnival Corporation announced that select cruise ships from the company's cruise line brands, including Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and P&O Cruises Australia, will be made available to communities for use as temporary hospitals.

Carnival Corporation reported that it expects a loss this fiscal year and is following steps to enhance liquidity, by borrowing $3 billion for six months under an existing credit facility. According to Bloomberg, the largest player in the cruise industry is reducing investments and expenses and looking for additional financing.

Princess Cruises and Holland America Line informed about a cyber security breach, during which hackers accessed personal information, like passport and Social Security numbers of guests, crew and employees. 

Carnival Cruise Line inked a fire-year agreement with the City of Norfolk, Virginia, to operate seasonal cruises from the Half Moone Cruise Centre through 2025, with Norfolk investing in the city's cruise centre to welcome larger vessels.
