In an official event on 5 June, the Government of Canada, the Canadian Coast Guard and the Government of British Columbia celebrated the launch of the country's second Offshore Fisheries Science Vessel (OFSV). The vessel is designed to meet the mission needs of the Canadian Coast Guard and scientists.

The Port of Vancouver reminds the shipping industry that as of June 1 the commercial shipping sector is alerted to begin voluntarily slowing their ships southern resident killer whales return to Haro Strait and Boundary Pass to feed for the summer.

For this reason, the Canadian Government announced a major investment of $47.5 million for two projects that will increase capacity at the Port of Halifax to move Canadian goods to international markets.

On the sidelines of the Empowering Women in the Maritime Community Conference in early April, the World Maritime University (WMU) and the Government of Canada jointly announced a major research project on the theme 'Empowering Women for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development'.

Canadian energy infrastructure company AltaGas announced the opening of its Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal (RIPET), located in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, the first marine export facility for propane in Canada. The facility began introducing propane feedstock in mid-April.

A lockout of longshore workers at the Port of Vancouver ended, as a deal was reached on May 30. The agreement prevented a potentially significant shipping disruption, as the workers' union and employers association informed. The issue that led to the disagreement was the employers association’s introduction of automation that could lead to jobs losses.

According to local sources, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada (ILWU Canada) reached an agreement with B.C. Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA), preventing a shutdown at the majority of the major port facilities, located at the Canadian west coast.

The Québec Port Authority announced the signing of a long-term commercial agreement with the port operator Hutchison Ports and the North American transportation and supply chain company CN (Canadian National Railway), to build and operate the new container terminal, known as project Laurentia.

On 10 May 2019, the Government of Canada issued an Interim Order announcing a suite of new measures to be implemented this summer to protect the endangered Southern Resident killer whales from vessel disturbance.
