On March 16th, the European Commission proposed the Net-Zero Industry Act to scale up manufacturing of clean technologies in the EU and make sure the Union is well-equipped for the clean-energy transition. This initiative was announced by President von der Leyen as a part of the Green Deal Industrial Plan.

NABU has released a study on methanol as a marine fuel. Green ammonia has been discussed alongside green hydrogen and methanol as the green future fuel for ships. The study "Ammonia as Marine Fuel – Risks and Perspectives" investigates environmental and climate questions.

As Amogy Inc. released in a statement, the company has announced its plan, during CERAWeek, to present its ammonia-powered, zero-emission tugboat in late 2023. Getting the first ammonia-powered vessel on the water signals a huge milestone in the journey to zero-emissions shipping, as ammonia is predicted to become the leading fuel source for the world’s giant cargo ships by 2050.

The Port of London Authority (PLA) which oversees safe operations in the UK’s busiest port, has released a statement on its achievement of halving its carbon emissions the past year due to biofuel. 

Singapore's port authority announced that, from 2023, all new harbor craft must be fully electric or be capable of using B100 biofuel, or be compatible with net-zero fuels such as hydrogen.

The voyage is an example of how Methanex and MOL are collaborating to demonstrate the viability of methanol as a marine fuel with a pathway to net-zero emissions.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE) announced that has conducted the trial use of B24 marine biofuel comprising 24% fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) blended with very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO), which was supplied by integrated energy company bp to the Capesize bulker “CAPE TSUBAKI” with the cooperation of the charterer, JFE Steel Corporation.
