ABS Chairman, President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki says risk-based, data-centric, cyber-influenced decision-making defines a new absolute value of talent. Speaking at the opening session of the CMA Shipping 2016 Conference, Mr Wiernicki shared his views on developing the talent needed to lead the maritime industry forward.

Paul R. Walters, Assistant Chief Engineer, ABS, explained why ‘Smart Ships Demands Quality Software and Cyber Security’ during the 2016 SMART4SEA Forum. He highlighted the need to improve software quality onboard marine and offshore assets. He addressed cybersecurity and Cybersafety pointing to four key elements for achieving safety and security objectives: traceability, documentation, transparency and verification. He explained that these requirements are self-evident and continue beyond the initial build into the maintenance phase.

ABS congratulates Cheniere Energy, Inc. on its commissioning cargo from the Sabine Pass LNG Terminal. Carried aboard the Asia Vision, an ABS-classed LNG Carrier, the cargo represents another historic milestone in ABS’s history of serving the gas industry.

COSCO and ABS have signed cooperation agreement to expand COSCO’s use of the Northeast Passage for more regular trading, explore navigation in Northwest Passage, and develop ice-classed vessel types appropriate for Trans-Arctic shipping. The parties will begin by establishing a cooperative initiative on Arctic Shipping Technology Development.
