Singapore’s LNG terminal has recently completed its expansion, increasing its capacity, which is now enough to deal with the the country’s gas demand, even if natural gas import through pipes stopped.
The terminal is currently being expanded in order to meet the high LNG demand. In this context, the terminal’s completion of third phase will help in the expected LNG uptake, as now it can accommodate from six to 11 million tonnes.
Singapore now consumes about nine million tonnes of LNG a year, local media reported.
However, the terminal is currently using only 2.5 million tonnes of its capacity. At the same time, although, the two jetties are being used, in order to help ships which are conducting various works.
Finally, the LNG terminal will build a fourth storage tank, featuring a capacity of 260,000 cubic metres. The new infrastructure will be completed in the second or third quarter of 2018. As a result, Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) scans for customers who want to use the fourth tank, with the market interest from LNG traders being intense, SLNG chief executive, John Ng, was cited as saying.
