Kosmos Energy (KOS) announced that it has begun the second phase of its multi-well exploration drilling program offshore Mauritania and Senegal.
The Atwood Achiever drillship is now on location offshore Senegal, in the Cayar Offshore Profond block, and has started drilling operations on the first exploration well in the program, targeting the Yakaar prospect (formerly referred to as Teranga West). The Yakaar prospect is located approximately 40 kilometers west of the Teranga discovery.
Recently, the company completed agreement with BP. Under the terms of the deal, BP acquired a 49.99 percent interest in Kosmos BP Senegal Limited, the controlled affiliate company which holds a 65 percent participating interest in the Cayar Offshore Profond and the Saint Louis Offshore Profond blocks offshore Senegal.
