According to the Economic Times of India, the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) recently appointed Charusheela L. Golapalli as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), with her term beginning on January 1, 2025.
Golapalli, a Commerce graduate from Mumbai University and an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, has been with SCI since 1995. She began her career as a Junior Officer and now brings nearly 30 years of experience, currently holding the position of General Manager of Corporate Accounts and Budget.
The Economic Times of India also reported that Golapalli’s promotion to CFO comes after the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways suspended Chirayu Indradeo Acharya from the role of Director (Finance) earlier this year.
SCI has recently shown impressive financial growth, with a consolidated net profit of Rs 291.44 crore and total income rising to Rs 1,491.23 crore for the second quarter ending September 2024, reflecting the company’s strengthening market position.
Charusheela L. Golapalli’s appointment as Chief Financial Officer of the Shipping Corporation of India marks an important step forward for diversity and gender representation in India’s corporate leadership, particularly within the traditionally male-dominated maritime industry. According to McKinsey’s Women in the Workplace 2024 report, women now hold 29% of C-suite positions, a notable increase from 17% in 2015, yet progress remains uneven.
