A keel laying ceremony for a multipurpose icebreaking ship of project P-71014, first ship of a series being built to the class of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) by order of PAO Sovcomflot was held at Archtech Helsinki Shipyard, Finland, on 17 December 2015.
The participants to the ceremony were Evgeniy Ambrosov, Senior Executive Vice-President of PAO Sovcomflot, Esko Mustamäki, Managing Director of Archtech Helsinki Shipyard, Albert Chernyshov, Director of the RS Branch in Finland, representatives of Sakhalin Energy oil and gas company and JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation.
By tradition of the Finnish shipbuilders, the participants to the ceremony placed “lucky pieces” in a keel block of the blockout. Later, at the ship launching, the “pieces” will be retrieved and put into a special box under the mast of the built ship.
The multipurpose icebreaking ship is designed for operation under Sakhalin-2 energy project. Ice class ships will be capable of providing emergency evacuation and oil spill response in adverse climatic conditions.
