Rolls-Royce has secured a contract to supply a power and propulsion package for a high-end ice-class multi-purpose vessel under construction at Keppel Singmarine for Singaporean ship owner New Orient Marine Pte Ltd.

Not only does it mark the continued trust Keppel Offshore & Marine has in us, but the contract also represents a new shipowner customer for Rolls-Royce. We are looking forward to working with New Orient Marine and the yard on this prestigious project.“
The propulsion package includes a 1650kW and two 3000kW tunnel thrusters, two US ARC 0.8 main azimuth thrusters and a single 3000kW retractable thruster. As well as four Bergen B32:40V12ACD and two Bergen C25:33L6ACD generating sets which will supply the requisite power to the £132 million offshore vessel.
“Ship operations in Arctic waters require reliable systems capable of operating cleanly and efficiently. As a pioneer in powering ice-class vessels we have the propulsion solution for technology-intensive operations in the harshest, most ecologically-sensitive environments,” added Knudsen.
Designed by Keppel Offshore & Marine’s ship design subsidiary, Marine Technology Development, the DP3 vessel will be built to Ice Class Arc 5 notation for operation in ambient temperatures down to -30°C.
New Orient Marine, a subsidiary of Luxembourg-based Maritime Construction Services, is due to take delivery of its first ice-class vessel in July 2017.
Rolls-Royce will start delivering equipment to the Keppel Singmarine in January 2016.
