Regent Seven Seas Cruises hosted an official ceremony in Miami for the christening of its newest luxury cruise ship ‘Seven Seas Splendor’, the first newbuilt ocean cruise ship to be helmed by a woman Captain; the 30-year veteran Captain Serena Melani.
Captain Melani, 45, has progressed quickly in her nearly 30-year career to roles of cruise ship leadership. She began her nautical career at age 16 as a cadet while attending school working on cargo ships in her hometown of Livorno, Italy, along the Tirrenian Sea in the Tuscany region.
In acknowledging this honor during her remarks, Captain Melani told the audience following a standing ovation that women can achieve any goal with perseverance and hard work.
Travel partners, local community leaders, media and luxury travelers, were invited to the ceremony onboard Seven Seas Splendor to celebrate the all-suite, all-balcony luxury cruise ship.
The collaboration between the designers, engineers, craftsmen, hotel and restaurant teams, and the crew onboard, all brings the renowned Regent experience to life on this beautiful ship,
